Emma's pick of today's good and bad PR...
Good PR
Calvin Klein’s signature fragrance “Obsession” is so good- even Cheetahs love it!
Apparently, zookeepers regularly spray perfume and cologne on items around Cheetah enclosures in order to stimulate the animals’ curiosity. When a zoo in New York decided to test out which fragrance, out of 24, the animals liked the most; Calvin Klein came out as by far the most popular choice. The smelly experiment was conducted by measuring how long it took the Cheetahs to notice the fragrance on the object, and how long they subsequently interacted with it. “Obsession” ignited their curiosity for a whopping 11.1 minutes, with Nina Ricci's L'Air du Temps coming in at a close second with 10.4 minutes.
This is the type of good PR that money can’t buy. Designing a fragrance for humans, only to find it’s a favourite amongst animals too? Gold.
Bad PR
Could things get any worse for BP? Today US experts have announced that the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico could have leaked up to twice as much oil as initially predicted; increasing hostility towards the unsatisfactory actions taken by the oil giants.
As much as 1.7 million gallons may have leaked from the burst well into the Gulf, which was triggered by an explosion in the Deepwater Horizon rig on the 20th April 2010. This news, coupled with the fact that BP’s chairman has been “summoned” to discuss the disaster with President Obama next week, accumulates in one hell of a rough ride for BP.
