If you regularly settle down in front of the telly box, you may have noticed an advert recently in which a tiny streaker with a strategically placed and very long beard invades a football pitch. Like me, you may have had a bit of a giggle and asked yourself ‘What the hell was that about?’.
Well, it’s the latest offering from Freeview HD who have launched a £12million campaign to promote its coverage of the World Cup. I couldn’t resist making this my good PR for today, as after doing a bit of digging around the campaign, I think it’s actually pretty good.
The advert leads viewers to the micro-site www.tinystreaker.com, which confirms Freeview HD are proud sponsors of the tiny bearded man in the nude. The link back is ‘See every tiny detail with Freeview HD’ – tenuous? Perhaps! Genius? Definitely!
Bad PR
A powerful American consumer group is threatening to sue McDonalds for ‘enticing children with toys’ and has given the food chain 30 days to ditch the ploy that it claims undermines parents’ efforts to encourage a healthy diet.
I guess their main concern is that by offering a free toy with a Happy Meal, it’s making children more likely to want to eat the food in the first place. I’d argue that they’d probably eat it anyway, regardless of whether or not there was a free toy, but I see where the group are coming from and think this definitely isn’t the best media exposure McDonalds could hope for.
