Emma's picks of today's Good and Bad PR. A rather car-themed one today, it seems...
Good PR
Mrs. Victoria Beckham: can she do no wrong? Apparently not, in the eyes of luxury car giants Range Rover, who have appointed her as ‘creative design executive.’
Mrs. Becks has been drafted in to work on a special edition of the newly launched ‘Evoque’ model; the ‘greenest’ Range Rover to date. According to bosses, she’ll be a good edition to the design team given her knowledge of fashion, trends and luxury products. Additional good pr for the company comes with the fact that the new model will create 1,000 extra jobs at the firm- news that sparked a round of applause from the audience at the new model’s unveiling.
Doubly good job all round there, Range Rover. A celeb endorsement and job opportunities to equal one big #PRWin.
Bad PR
Just when Toyota thought things couldn’t get any worse for them this year. After the Prius fiasco had finally died down, it has now been revealed that up to 3,200 of its cars in the UK may have to be recalled following an engine fault.
The fault affects its Lexus and Crown models, and puts the cars at risk of stalling whilst moving. It’s not just models in the UK at risk of recall, as over 270,000 worldwide may suffer the same fate. This comes as another huge blow to Toyota, who have had to recall over 10 million vehicles globally since September last year.
Although no accidents so far have been reported from the fault, this is the icing on the cake for the company who have suffered a plethora of Bad PR already this year.
