Sales data from the UK’s leading ‘consumer revenge’ discount site has found that two of the three most popular retailers on the site are DIY stores Screwfix Direct and Wickes, as thousands of Brits say they are foregoing holidays and staying in this summer.

Research by the UK’s leading discount site of over 3200 people has found that three out of five Brits will be foregoing a holiday this year in a bid to spend money more wisely, a fact which has meant huge increases in sales for DIY retailers Screwfix Direct and Wickes compared to the same time last year.
The top three partnered discounters according to www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk are Sky Digital, Screwfix Direct and Wickes, a fact which prompted MD and media-spokesman Mark Pearson to investigate, given that electrical retailers normally lead.
MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, a discount site visited by a fifth of online Brits monthly, surveyed 3,280 users and found that 57% were staying at home this summer. A further 29% said they were holidaying in the UK to save money.
43% of Brits said that they would instead prefer to spend time and money on home improvement.
Thrifty Brits are, however, still keen to treat the family, as 61% said they have been and would be going on more day-trips this summer.
29 year old entrepreneur Mark Pearson, credit-crunch spokesman and Managing Director of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk had the following to say,
"It looks like Brits have plumped for a summer of DIY, which is wise considering that home improvement will obviously benefit in the long run as house prices continue to slowly improve.
"Compared to last year, foreign holidays have been a poor seller for us, with people happier to spend money on products and services that give more of a return. Our research also suggests that people are happier to enjoy day-trips and UK holidays this year as well as focus on their home, which can only be a great thing for the British tourism industry."
